
The federal city Bonn is a large city with scarcely 318,000 inhabitants on both banks of the Rhine in the south of North Rhine-Westphalia. The city is more than 2000 years old. Thus Bonn belongs to the oldest cities of Germany. It traces back to Germanic and Roman settlements. From 1597 to 1794 it was residence of the Cologne elector, 1770 Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn.
